Kunst und Meer was founded in 2026 by Peter Hauptmann and Karin Schäfer.
Karin is an artist, Peter is a cultural manager; together we have worked in the field of art and culture our entire professional lives.
And: we love the sea. Peter originally studied marine biology, and Karin learned the art of puppet theatre in Barcelona.
Both of us are from Vienna; together we lived in Barcelona for 7 years and later for another 3 years in Malaga, to be closer to the sea. There, Karin started her SEAmaps.
So, what could be more natural than finally combining our passions for art and the sea?
Because we enjoy exchanging ideas and collaborating with other people, we want to design Kunst und Meer as an open platform, as a gallery, catalogue, and magazine.
We want to invite artists to present their works here in the catalogue, to show them in joint exhibitions in various locations, and in the magazine, we will report on exciting people, projects, art venues, and on past, present, and future topics related to art and the sea.
We are open to all suggestions, inputs, feedback, and, of course, your applications!
