Kunst und Meer was founded in 2026 by Peter Hauptmann and Karin Schäfer.
Karin is an artist, Peter is a cultural manager, and together we have worked in the field of art and culture our entire professional lives.
And: we love the sea. Peter originally studied marine biology, and Karin studied the art of figure theatre in Barcelona.
We both come from Vienna, and together we lived in Barcelona for 7 years and later another 3 years in Malaga to be closer to the sea. It was there that Karin began her SEAmaps.
So what could be more natural than finally combining our passions for art and the sea?
Because we enjoy interacting and collaborating with other people, we want to make Kunst und Meer an open platform, serving as a gallery, catalogue, and magazine.
We would like to invite artists to present their work here in the Kunst und Meer ° Catalogue, to show it in joint exhibitions in different locations, and in the magazine we will report on exciting people, projects, art spaces, and past, present, and future developments surrounding art and the sea.
We are open to all suggestions, input, and, of course, your applications!
We look forward to your interest, your feedback, and further ideas!
